Wow, it’s been a hot minute since I last blogged. It feels a little like life has been passing me by lately; but I wanted to take a second to share something really special with you.
You might have seen last month I launched Listen Louder – a new brand built to spark real-life conversations surrounding mental health. After being diagnosed with depression back in 2016, I craved a space carved out to feel less alone. Mental health can be one of the most isolating things and with hefty stigmas still attached, I wanted to try and do my bit to break them down.
Listen Louder is currently an online hub for mental health support – from the podcast, where I interview weekly guests about their mental health experiences, to our website, where members of the public (that’s you and me), can submit their own stories in the bid to help us all feel heard.
But in the background I’ve been busying away on another secret project, too.
Jewellery is my armour. If I’m not wearing it, I’ll instantly feel exposed and over the years, it has without doubt become my safety net.
When first creating Listen Louder, I knew I wanted something physical to represent the brand. And nothing felt more fitting than a piece of jewellery.
I knew immediately that I wanted it to be a wearable piece – something simple but impactful. A high quality item, that you can wear everyday, to help give you that sense of belonging and control.
All of the components that make up the necklace are as organic as possible, bringing everything back to the earth, sea and sun.
The pendant is cast from a fresh water pearl – carefully chosen for its beautiful texture and shape. Pearls symbolise wisdom gained through experiences; and are believed to attract good luck and give the wearer protection, which is something I was keen to incorporate. Pearls also give a calming effect and are a little bit personal to me too, as pearl means ‘Megan’.
I wanted to add a stone to the pendant, and thought a sapphire would be the perfect addition. They’re precious stones that come with different meanings, so you’re able to pick the piece that suits you best.
Orange Sapphires stimulate creativity and passion, bringing warmth and physical comfort to the wearer. Connected to Mars, the planet of action. They impart vitality and strength of purpose, lending the ability to move forward with endeavours or stand firm in opposition.
Pink Sapphires assist the emotional body through the transitions of life, stimulating the emotions of love, forgiveness, acceptance, and letting go. This lovely crystal soothes the heart and aligns it with the mind, healing wounds of the past and encouraging compassion for others. It helps the wearer find joy in interacting with others.
In your choice of silver or 18ct gold vermeil, each stone is set and the precious metals solidify around the stones. Meaning no one piece will be the same and is completely unique to you.
The design of the organic loop means everything is at one with the piece and your pendant can move freely. Should it flip over, you’ll be able to see the engraving ‘LISTEN’ on the back, a constant reminder that there is always someone there for you. A glimmer of your precious stone; along with a hand engraved unique number, to highlight our limited batch.
With mental health being at the forefront of our brand – 10% of everything we make will go to MIND to support their mission to not give up until everyone experiencing a mental health problem gets both support and respect.
We all have our ways for managing a bad mental health moment. I hope this piece will be something you’ll feel safe wearing. Knowing you’re not alone.
It’s been such a passion project for me and it’s been a long time coming – but now it’s here I can’t help but feel really nervous. I’m hoping you will love it as much as I do; and that the amount of love and care that’s gone into everything shows. I’m hopeful this is just the beginning for the brand and that you’ll stick by my side throughout.
And when you put on this necklace, I hope you will be able to hold it in your hand, close to your chest and be reminded that someone is always there to listen.
There are only 50 available – so be quick!
So much hope and a lot of love,
