One question I have been asked countless times this year is ‘what is your daily makeup routine?’.
I am a creature of habit – I find something I like and I stick to it. So it’s safe to say that this year has seen me wear pretty much the same makeup every, single, day.
With that in mind, I thought it might be helpful to have a post dedicated to just that: the makeup I wear, and why I wear it.
MY DAILY MAKEUP
Bobbi Brown Corrector (shade porcelain bisque). I’m quite sure the dark circles I have permanently indented under my eyes are hereditary. All the ladies in the family have them. And well, thank the lord for Bobbi Brown, because before her, for most of my younger years, I looked like I’d been going ten rounds with Mike Tyson. That, or I was impersonating some kind of demon child from a horror film.
The corrector comes in various shades to help eliminate dark pigmentation under the eyes. And it works tremendously well for balancing out the purple-y shadow I constantly have. I apply it gently using my (ring) finger because I don’t like to put too much pressure or product on the skin and find it blends better that way.
IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Illumination (Shade Medium): For days where I feel I need a little more coverage and brightening, I’ll use this concealer. It’s highly pigmented so covers amazingly well and is one of the only heavy duty concealers I’ve found that doesn’t crack or crease. Due to the heavier nature of the product I’ll use my brush to make blending smoother and easier.
IT Cosmetics CC Cream (Shade Light). Be still my beating heart, it was love at first application. I have never been a fan of BB creams, that promise of looking like your skin but better never came through for me. I always wound up looking blotchy and oily, which isn’t a look I strive for. But that just wasn’t the case with IT’s CC cream. The brand is born on a foundation of skincare, with makeup added. So you know that anything you use, is benefiting your skin at the same time as enhancing your natural look.
Likewise, the CC cream was created by the brand owner to help cover her rosacea, so you can just imagine the beautiful coverage it gives. I simply use one pump directly on to my brush and blend from my nose outwards. For me, I feel like a stronger coverage to the centre of the face is more flattering, creating a softer finish towards the edges and hairline.
Chanel Tan de Soleil: I use this beauty to enhance the hollows of my cheeks, around my forehead and a touch on the nose. It’s a creamy product that blends beautifully; giving a really soft definition as a result.
Tarte Blush: I didn’t know I needed a cheek stain until I tried Tarte’s. For me, it’s a blush and highlighter in one. Therefore achieving a stunningly natural glow with a healthy pop of colour. I apply it to my skin directly from the product, swiping it up and over my cheeks and to my brow bone, then blend with a soft brush.
EYES & BROWS
IT Cosmetics Superhero Mascara: This. This mascara is the holy grail of all mascaras. It’s the product I get asked about the most, and it definitely speaks for itself. The brush is designed in a way so that it picks up lashes I didn’t know I had – each coat adds length and volume that I’ve found impossible to beat, hence me not reaching for anything else for a good while.
IT Cosmetics Universal Brow Pencil: It’s a really gentle shade, if that makes any sense at all. The more pressure you apply, the darker it is. And I find it perfect for applying a whispy, full brow.
Benefit Cosmetics Ready, Set, Brow! Discovering this setting gel a few years back is up there with some of my greatest achievements. Yes I do set the bar high for myself.
I call it the hairspray for brows, and it’s literally incredible. After filling in my brows I apply this, sweeping the brush upwards to help separate the hairs. As a result, it keeps them firm and upright, without being crispy, all day.
Charlotte Tilbury Walk of Shame Lipstick. Finally comes lipstick – of which I have TOO many. But like everything else, once I find one I love, we’re stuck together. I’ve found Walk of Shame to be the perfect, day to night shade. I can wear it with pretty much anything and it’s probably my favourite beauty discovery of 2018 – absolutely adore it.
Charlotte Tilbury Bond Girl Lip Liner. When it comes to wearing lip liner, I like to wear a slightly different shade to my lipstick. I find it helps to make my lips appear fuller and also helps my shaky hands stay within the lines!
